SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAMS

Special Response Teams

Special response teams (SRT’s) at the ATF are divided into three main groups, medical, tactical and negotiations. The purpose of SRT’s is to conduct high risk enforcement operations such as search and arrests, robberies, buys and busts, undercover work and protection operations. They are the center of the ATF’s mission. Medical specialists help to prevent death and further injury. Tactical specialists carry out high risk operations to neutralize any threat. Negotiators engage with terrorists and hostage takers in order to prevent these situations from escalating. There are five SRT’s stationed across the US in Dallas, TX, Miami, FL, Washington, DC, Detroit MI, and Los Angeles, CA. SRT’s receive two-hundred activations annually, two-hundred and six in 2017.
